Hertfordshire VJ Day Online Exhibition
On 15 August 1945, Japan surrendered and World War II finally came to a close. Thousands of Allied troops that had been captured and made Prisoners of War were released and began their lengthy journey home. The occasion was far cry from the widespread jubilation of VE Day in May that year.
Listen to diary extracts from Prisoner of War George Saunders as he made the journey home from his camp in Thailand.
