GNUF has Landed!

Grand Northern Ukulele Festival has landed!

Grand Northern Ukulele Festival (GNUF) has begun with hundreds of ukulele players from all over the world arriving in Huddersfield.

What started as a small two day event in 2013 has grown to become the biggest Ukulele Festival in Europe, with people travelling to Huddersfield from as far away as Australia and the US to take part in the award-winning event.

This year’s event launched last night at Magic Rock Brewery Tap with visitors and locals joining in song around the humble ukulele. It continues through to Sunday, May 12 and there will be a host of free events throughout the weekend. The main event takes place Saturday and Sunday at the Lawrence Batley Theatre with Jake Shimabukuro (known widely as, “the Jimi Hendrix of the ukulele”) performing to sold-out crowds.

On Friday, there are concerts and singalongs at Head of Steam, The Sportsman and Northern Quarter from 6pm. All are free entry.

On Saturday in addition to the main event at the Lawrence Batley Theatre, there is a free family friendly stage at Vinyl Tap from 10:30 to 2pm and a Late Night Blues Stage at Northern Quarter from 9:30pm until late.

Sunday after the main event wraps, the festival returns to Magic Rock Brewery tap for the After Party from 6pm. All are welcome.
It is estimated that GNUF generates more than £250,000 for the local economy every year, bringing performers and ukulele fans from across the UK, Europe and beyond.
