GNUF 2019 - A Grand Northern Ukulele Festival
More fun that you could shake a ukulele at!
After 7 successful years, GNUF (A Grand Northern Ukulele Festival) returns to Huddersfield with the world's best in ukulele music as well a loads of new & exciting things taking place. We've got Jake Shimabukuro (considered to be the world's best ukulele player) and top British and European ukulele performers. There are new things for you to experience and take part in including singing, making and playing. There's workshops exploring instrument-making, photography, performance, singing and children's music (among many others). There are concerts, open-mic stages, a bazaar selling all manner of weird & wonderful instruments and much much more.
FEATURING:
++JAKE SHIMABUKURO, making his GNUF debut.
++CRAIG CHEE & SARAH MAISEL, world class jazz & contemporary ukulele players from the USA
++PETER LUONGO, World-renowned ukulele teacher of the Langley School in Canada is building an ensemble from festival attendees who will then perform on the Sunday.
++TRICITY VOGUE, well-loved presence on the UK cabaret scene, Tricity brings the late-night stage to life with her exceptional talent.
++THE BAD MOUSE ORCHESTRA, a widely loved German ukulele act returns after rapturous audience responses at last year's debut.
++TRACK DOGS, an international act from Spain & Ireland who've built a massive following at folk festivals around Europe.
++LEAGUE OF UKULELE GENTLEMEN, well-loved British performers, they're bringing their massive fun & participatory show to GNUF.
And many many more.

What's On:
FRIDAY:
Friday night is a night for jams, meeting old friends and making new friends.
We’ll be based mainly around the railway station in town.
Thursday night is the launch party at Magic Rock's Brewery Tap
Friday events include:
** Afternoon & Evening Workshops
** A Gig at the Sportsman Pub at 7pm.
** Friday Night Jam & Open Mic at the Head of Steam Pub from 8pm (though some folks do arrive earlier).
** A special sing-along performance at Northern Quarter including Stanley Brinks & Freschard
(Friday Venues include: Head of Steam Pub, Sportsman Pub & Northern Quarter)

SATURDAY:
Saturday is chock full of new experiences, performances, jams, open mics, workshops and loads more! It’s based primarily at the Lawrence Batley Theatre (though we do have a stage at Vinyl Tap records near the station on Saturday morning).
Things taking place on Saturday include:
Workshops in the morning and during the tea break
**The Vinyl Tap Stage in the morning
**Mim’s International Sideshow Stage from late morning to early afternoon
**The unplugthewood stage on Saturday afternoon
**Mainstage concerts in the afternoon and evening
**Tricity Vogue’s Late Night Cabaret on Saturday night (late!)
** NEW Late Night Blues Stage at Northern Quarter (late!)
**Workshops galore
and more!

SUNDAY
Sunday includes even more workshops, performances, open-mics and jamming. The Original Ukulele Songs Stage takes place on Sunday. We’re based primarily at the Lawrence Batley Theatre until Sunday night when there’s an after-party at back at Magic Rock.

NOTE: Events held in Pubs & at Vinyl Tap are free. The rest of the festival is ticketed.
