ASPECTS OF ASSEMBLAGE - Open Studios & Garden
Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd September 2013, 11am - 6pm
Studio 36 Open Studios and Garden featuring work by Veronica Gosling and Tamsin Pender
During the summer Tamsin Pender and Veronica Gosling have been assembling art works, in totally different ways, which will be on show for 3 days in their studios and in the sculpture garden. In this time they will demonstrate, and hopefully discuss with visitors, the challenges, pleasures and satisfaction of transforming existing objects into new and interesting contemporary forms.
About Veronica:
Veronica writes: “I use objects that I find and like for their shape, texture and history. Then I deflect my thoughts and see them simply as forms and shapes that fit into my visual vocabulary. I have always needed to transform that which I see, and do, … into some sort of artistic medium.”
About Tamsin:
Tamsin Pender completed post-graduate studies at the Royal Academy Schools in 1990 and has since exhibited widely, including at the Tate Gallery St Ives, Walsall New Art Gallery and Beaconsfield, London. Tamsin makes non-permanent interventions in public spaces and gallery settings using lo-fi materials such as thread and tape. “Currently printmaking is influencing my methods and techniques in capturing the fleeting and ephemeral in the landscape: the weights and measures of the printing process are making their mark on my practice.”
Tamsin writes: “Richard Long once remarked “Why stop skimming stones when you grow up?” It is in this spirit of playfulness that I have been working in a light-filled studio space at Studio 36 whilst enjoying a residency at Double Elephant Print Workshop this summer. The walk between the two spaces is a rich source of texture and pattern as my vision is drawn downwards to the cracks in paving stones, dimples and divots. You can the see my prints and new artworks made during the walk in my open studio from 20 to 22 September. I am delighted to be taking part in the event Aspects of Assemblage on Friday 20 September, when I will be showing the short film Walking the Line (by Joshua Gaunt) and discussing aspects of our work at Studio 36 with Veronica Gosling.”
