Earth Arts Course 24-30 July Drewsteignton, Dartmoor
Join experienced practitioners this year at Dartmoor Arts Project Summer School for an innovative course using earth materials. Talented young ceramicist Rupert Johnstone and pioneering cob artists Jackie Abey and Jill Smallcombe are teaching an art-led sculpture course exploring both fired and unfired earth materials ranging from clay to cob. With individual and group projects students will create simple forms enabling them to explore the scope and feel of these materials. Through this gained knowledge and understanding, students will then have a free hand to be ambitious and to realise their own work, fired and/or unfired.
Jackie Abey and Jill Smallcombe have completed major commissions using cob including the cob visitors centre at the Eden Project and projects for the National Trust and Met Office.
Course costs £485 including tuition, materials, evening meal and entry to all evening events. For more information visit www.dartmoorarts.com. Early booking advised.
