Freelance Technicians, Creative Scene

Creative Scene are looking to build a pool of technical staff who can work with us over the next few years to deliver arts activities in indoor and outdoor non traditional venues. As well as the practical delivery of events we are looking for technicians to visit spaces and advise on equipping them to be able to host arts events.

Creative Scene is the Arts Council England’ Creative People and Places Project for North Kirklees - West Yorkshire, supported by a consortium including The Lawrence Batley Theatre, Kirklees Council, and the Batley Festival. Creative Scene wants more people in the towns of Batley, Birkenshaw, Birstall, Cleckheaton, Dewsbury, Gomersal, Liversedge, and all the places in between to create, and be part of, inspiring high quality arts experiences.

Person Specification

Essential Qualities:

Previous technical experience of presenting work in non-traditional venues both indoor and outdoor
Previous experience of production management and /or of working with and supporting creative teams
Experience of presenting work across the performing and visual arts
Awareness of Health & Safety issues, including a working knowledge of related legislation. Thorough knowledge and experience of current stage and rigging techniques
Good communication skills
Ability to work with non-arts professionals to see the potential in their space for hosting arts events
Ability to remain calm whilst working under pressure
Available and willing to work scheduled evenings and weekends, including the anti-social hours
Available to work in the North Kirklees area
A positive, flexible, ‘can-do’ attitude to work, and a desire to continuously improve working practices
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

Desirable Qualities:

Experience of building maintenance
Knowledge and/or training in managing Health & Safety, including First Aid, Manual Handling, Working at Height (Rope Access, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms etc). Understanding of North Kirklees community, voluntary, arts sector and audiences Leadership skills, with experience of managing teams
Driving Licence and own vehicle
