This concert is simply a wealth of highlights of operatic and classical music from World Cup countries, as the competition reaches its final stages.
The excitement and colour of this summer evening features music of Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Spain, France, England and many more. There are excerpts from Puccini’s Madam Butterfly and Bizet’s Carmen, a blazing Wagner prelude together with sparkling songs from Strauss’s Die Fledermaus and Delibes’ Les Filles de Cadiz. From our tenor this evening, a well-known Neopolitan song and haunting numbers made famous by the great Mario Lanza. There will also be echoes of the previous evening with Piazzolla’s popular Libertango.
As the sun goes down at the start of the Quarter final weekend, Rossini’s famous Overture to William Tell will be followed by the most famous World Cup operatic aria of all, Nessun Dorma from Puccini’s Turandot. It will be a great night!
Plus the World Premier of Opera MashUp featuring the young people of Torbay and WNO players............
