Share Freelance Assistant Director- Young Company Summer

Theatre Royal Plymouth is seeking an Assistant Director for our next Young Company production, THEY, created and devised by TRP Young Company under the direction of Nik Partridge . This will be performed in The Drum from the 22nd-25th August 2018.

The Role

Through this post the Assistant Director will gain experience alongside a professional director in a professional theatre. You will work closely with the Director and be privy to all aspects of the creative process where possible.

Applicants should have a keen interest in the craft of directing and in particular developing new work from scratch. You should be interested in developing your understanding of creative collaboration, particularly with young people being put at the heart of the process.

A keen interest in new writing, devising and script development is preferable. The Assistant Director will provide dramaturgical support alongside the core creative team. Strong organisation skills are essential and you should be comfortable documenting material generated during workshops and transcribing content for potential future use.

You should be comfortable working alongside a group of young people from a variety of backgrounds and with differing levels of experience. Applicants should be interested in fostering a collaborative and supportive approach to developing work.

There will be opportunity for the Assistant Director to converse with the Director and receive mentoring on the process.

The Assistant Director must be available for all rehearsal and production dates. Please click here for the Rehearsal Schedule. You are encouraged to attend the R&D dates in June as part of your development at your discretion.

Please note that this is a Freelance position with a Freelance Fee of £1000.00. Therefore you will be responsible for your own tax and national insurance contributions and must have a unique tax reference number.
