EU Vote and the Arts
Arts Council Statement
How does the EU vote affect funding of the Arts....
This email was sent by the Arts Council on Friday:
The EU Referendum
For the immediate future, it will be business as usual as we continue to prepare for our 2018-22 investment process.
Arts Council England will work with the arts and cultural sector to support them over the coming months, and to understand the impact of the referendum vote.
As the Government develops its response and determines how preparations to leave the EU will begin, we will work with departments across Government to ensure the views and concerns of the arts and culture sector are heard.
4.2% of our National Portfolio Organisations' income comes from public sources other than Arts Council and Local Authorities. Only a portion of this is likely to be from the EU, but we advise that organisations consider their own business plan.
Some individual projects may be affected, including those in our Capital programme or Creative Local Growth Fund. Organisations based in areas where there is significant European funding for regeneration or economic growth may also be impacted indirectly. We will liaise with Local Authorities to determine this through our ongoing conversations.
We will be in touch with organisations that we believe could be affected. If you think there will be an impact on your organisation, we encourage you to contact your Relationship Manager.
Another concern for our sector is the potential impact from restrictions on European artists coming to the UK to work, or those planning tours and other work within the EU. The extent of restrictions on freedom of movement will depend on future negotiations, which could take some time to complete.
We remain committed to supporting arts and cultural organisations to work internationally – both those that are presenting international artists and collections in this country and those who are developing new markets abroad.
We will be back in contact when we have further information.
