our creative website goes national ....
Press Release 07/11/11
Three years ago Torbay Culture and Arts community had a vision that they could develop a new website which would support the highly valuable arts and cultural sector of the English Riviera and South Devon. They applied for and received funding from the Arts Council to develop a website and together with representatives from the Creative Industries sector, tourism and students and lecturers from South Devon College work began on the site. Now three years on and creativetorbay.com is going from strength to strength. The site works like a social networking site such as Facebook whereby creative and cultural producers can set up profiles and launch news, events and jobs onto the site. Each week the newest content is bundled up and sent out to thousands of consumers who have signed up for the weekly newsletter. The site has 900 profiles varying from top notch local architecture companies to artists, theatres, web companies, filmmakers and event organisers. Now the site is taking off across the country with a sister site, creativewestsussex.com, recently launched and a third site, creativesomerset.com due early next year. The sites will be linked inside each other encouraging users to explore other areas, including Torbay. Executive Lead for Tourism and Environment, which also includes culture in the Bay, Cllr Jeanette Richards, said: "We are always looking for new and innovative ways to put Torbay on the map as the cultural destination within the South-west. However, unique developments like the creativetorbay.com site has attracted people from across the country and really raised our profile nationally as well as locally. "The site is visited by thousands of users every week and in hard economic times it provides the perfect platform for our local creative industries to publicise their work and in turn generate more business. "And it doesn't stop there! The creativetorbay team are currently talking to other areas of the UK who have also shown an interest in coming on board with us too..
