Assistant Curator, Tate St Ives
This is an exciting opportunity to develop your career with a world-class centre of excellence and bring art to a wider audience.
In 2017 Tate St Ives opened its new extension allowing for the permanent presence of modern British art from the Tate collection to be on show in Cornwall all year round. The displays complement a programme of exhibitions of modern and contemporary British and international art now presented in the new 500m2 wing. Our Exhibitions and Displays department is responsible for curating and delivering exhibitions, collection displays and projects, working closely with our Learning team and in partnership with artists to find fresh ways of connecting with our audience.
As an Assistant Curator, you will help organise and co-ordinate major exhibitions and gallery displays, communicating with colleagues both internally and across sites to ensure projects are delivered within budget and to the highest standards. Your role will encompass everything from carrying out research, negotiating loans and preparing budget estimates to communicating with tour venues, producing gallery information and delivering lectures and VIP tours.
Your degree in a relevant subject, preferably art history or a related field, will be supported by a sound knowledge of twentieth century and contemporary art. You will need paid or voluntary experience of working in a museum or gallery (including organising exhibitions), a high level of IT literacy and excellent communication, teamwork, planning and prioritisation skills. An imaginative, proactive approach and the ability to make good decisions under pressure will also be essential.
