VE Day 75 in Kirklees
To mark the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, Kirklees Council are arranging a special programme of activity for Friday 8 May.
VE Day marks the end of hostilities in Europe in the Second World War but due to the Coronavirus situation and the Government requirements on social distancing, most of the community events across the country have had to be cancelled or postponed in order to keep people safe and healthy. However, there are still things happening that you can join in with from the safety of your own garden or armchair.
Residents are being encouraged to take part in creative activities and to mark the occasion safely with doorstep parties that still following social distancing rules. Victoria Tower at Castle Hill and Town Halls in Dewsbury, Batley and Cleckheaton will be lit up. The lightning up of Castle Hill will be live streamed on Facebook and will also be available to view from the Council's website. Films of the three town halls will also be made available on social media on the night so no-one needs to leave their homes to see the show.
