Theatre Director with Facilitator & Dramaturg experience

Freedom Studios are seeking a theatre director, with excellent facilitation skills and experience of dramaturgy, for the two-week research and development of#ChipShoptheMusical between Monday 8th June and Friday 19th June 2015.

#ChipShoptheMusical is a rapped and spoken word musical that fuses UK grime with Rodgers & Hammerstein. It takes place in a real chip shop, where the audience are served food and drink by the cast during the course of the show.

The show is being developed by Freedom Studios in collaboration with writer and co-producer, Emma Hill. It features urban choreography, grime tracks and chip shop sounds, created live by the actors using serving utensils, crockery , cutlery etc.

For the research and development phase of this project, we are looking to engage a director to do the following:
•Facilitate the exploration of the current draft of the script
•Facilitate and steer input from the project’s creative team to interpret and theatrically realise the script
•Work collaboratively with the Writer and creative team
•Direct sections of the script for presentation at a work-in-progress performance at the end of the two-week R&D period

Essential Experience:
•Directing new pieces of writing
•Working closely with scripts in development
•Working with scripts as a dramaturg
•Facilitating large creative teams
•Directing productions involving music, lyrical delivery and choreography
•Working on research & development projects
•Directing scratch or work-in-progress productions

Desirable Experience:
•Working on site-specific productions

Fee: £2,000. Plus travel expenses, subsistence and accommodation.
