STAY Creative Open Space
STAY Creative Open Space
Date: Thursday 15th October 2015
Time: from 1pm to 4:30pm
Venue: The Tetley, Hunslet Rd, Leeds LS10 1JQ
The theme and main question of this open space event is “What do BAME theatre and performing artists need to make work?”
STAY Creative is a solution-orientated Open Space event, organized by STAY (Sustained Theatre Artists Yorkshire), to which both emerging and established BAME artists are warmly invited to discuss and bring new ideas to improve BAME artists’ opportunities in the North.
As part of our contribution to Black History Month and Diversity Season 2015, STAY Creative Open Space is an opportunity for you to influence the way theatre is made in the North. This event will focus on your solutions to the challenges facing the sector and especially BAME artists.
In December 2014, Arts Council England announced changes to “how they would be working with their funded organisations and how they would be investing in the sector to realise the ambitions of ‘the Creative Case for diversity’ ”. STAY embraces this initiative and believes that BAME artists now need to make their voices heard and their needs known. STAY Creative Open Space will be facilitated by experienced individuals and sector leaders who will be carefully listening to the debates.
We will not be complaining about what has been done or not done in the past, but rather stating what will be needed from now on, to make this great cultural diversity a winning card for the performing arts. We need your voice in these discussions! Book your FREE ticket for Thursday 15th of October 2015, at The Tetley, Hunslet Rd, Leeds LS10 1JQ.
If you are a BAME Theatre Maker or practitioner living and working in Yorkshire, you will need to be at this event. Amongst those listening and participating will be Hannah Bentley from Arts Council England, James Brining of West Yorkshire Playhouse and Daniel Evans of Sheffield Theatres and Act for Change.
