Programme Director: The Art House, Wakefield
If you get up every day to change the world through art, then this may be the job for you. If you want to work with and support artists, especially those from under-represented backgrounds, to help them break through the glass ceiling of the professional art world, then this might be the chance you’ve been waiting for.
If you’re equally excited when a truck driver, a single mum and Adrian Searle all show up at your exhibitions and events, then you might just want to call The Art House home.
The Art House are looking for a very special person to take the helm of developing and leading their Artistic Programme. You will be charged with creating the most interesting, high quality, diverse, kick ass artistic, professional development, exhibition, outreach and engagement programme you can think of.
Who they’re looking for
You will be fearless in your programming, with people and the values of accessibility, diversity, opportunity and artistic quality at the heart of everything you do.
You will be a wholistic, entrepreneurial and strategic thinker with a natural ability to create connections that weave together the varied strands of our programming into one cohesive, impactful and fabulous whole.
You’ll understand that art is more than just theory, art-speak and cheap red wine at openings. It’s our oldest form of human communication and it can connect and empower both individuals and communities.
That being said, you’ll really know your stuff when it comes to the contemporary art scene, critically, curatorially and pedagogically. You’ll see plenty of shows, know quality when you see it and can hold your own with art-speak if you have to. You will be an excellent communicator, with strong emotional-literacy skills who can move fluidly between different types of people. You’ll have strong and diverse networks and always be broadening them.
You will be a people person and enjoy collaborating with a team, not being afraid to bring your expertise, skills and opinions to the table, but also learning from your colleagues and valuing their skills and experience. The Art House is a place where our team works together to deliver something bigger than any one of us alone.
Crucially, you will care about Wakefield and developing its artists, makers and creative infrastructure as well as its potential to be a great place for people to live, work and create. We especially welcome applications from those who are traditionally under-represented in senior arts sector roles, including but not limited to disabled people and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people.
Oh, and ideally you’ll like dogs (because they have three in the office!)

Deadline for applications: Thursday 19 November, 17:00
Interviews (provisional): Tuesday 1 December
