Memories of our square
Huddersfield Local History Society would like you to send them your stories.
We all have our different memories of Huddersfield’s iconic Square and so many things have taken place there. For many people, whether they are coming to Huddersfield to start a new life or just visiting, the Square is the very first thing they see. From the business carried on in its buildings to royal visits, carnivals, fairs and festivals of light, St George’s Square has a colourful history. Music, sport, politics and religion have all played their part.
Huddersfield Local History Society would like you to help tell that story either by contributing your memories in words or pictures, whether from long ago or yesterday, to their new website oursquare.org, or by contacting them at email@oursquare.org. They are also putting together an illustrated book to be published in 2023 and your memories of the Square could be included.
Huddersfield Local History Society’s Memories of Our Square project is supported by Historic England as part of its High Streets Heritage Action Zones [HSHAZ] initiative.
