Kirklees participants wanted for walking inspired textile art

Textile artist, Liadin Cooke’s has been selected by Kirklees Council to produce a creative response to the Covid-19 pandemic which aims to capture the spirit and response of Kirklees, its communities, and people. The artwork produced will be displayed with the potential to become part of the Kirklees Museum and Galleries collections, and as a document to this significant moment in the district’s history.

Liadin is looking for volunteers to participate in the realisation of the textile artwork which will articulate active moments during the Covid Pandemic.

A tapestry is to be made that will be a representation of walks undertaken by residents of Kirklees and Liadin is looking for volunteers who are both interested in textiles and walking. Those who express an interest in being involved will be asked to take a walk from their home, and the area where their walk takes place will then provide templates for the formal shapes woven into the work.

The only criteria for participation are that you live in Kirklees and you go on walks from your home that take between 1-3 hours to complete. These walks can occur at a time that suits you and may be ones that have opened up hidden places in your neighbourhood.

If you think that this is something that you would be interested in taking part in, the deadline for expressions of interest is the 8 March 2021, with the completion of the walks to have taken place by 2 April 2021.
