Kirklees Local Offer

Kirklees Council, as a local authority, must publish a local offer as part of national changes to the law for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This is one of the ways we are delivering the changes introduced by the Children and Families Act Part 3: SEN which became law in September 2014.

The Kirklees local offer provides information for children and young people with special educational needs and dis-abilities (SEND) and their families and has been co-produced and developed with children, young people, parents and carers living in the Kirklees area. It is more than a directory of services. It brings everything together in one place.

It will make it easier to find out what you need to know, when you need to know it. It tells you where the nearest and most suitable services are, lets you give feedback, raise concerns or make a comment or complaint.

The Local Offer contains information and links to organisations which may help you. Knowing what is out there gives you more choice and control over the right support for you and your child. On the local offer website you can find information on:

- Public services that are available within education, health and social care
Voluntary and private sector support and services like charities and disability groups, nurseries or youth clubs

- Activities for children and young people who have additional needs like cinema screenings for children with specific needs, evening clubs during the week and events throughout the school holidays

- Information for young adults to help make decisions about things like choices after school, employment, where to live, transport and social activities

- Independent advice services for parents and carers and who to speak to if you think your child needs extra help

The local offer is not a directory. Its aim is to help you find the information that you’re looking for or to sign post you to somebody who can provide more information or answer any questions you might have.

It also gives information to individuals, groups or organisations who support children and young people with special educational needs and their families, by highlighting resources, services or guidance that they may find useful.
