Funding Awarded from Arts in Neighbourhood Grant Scheme

The Kirklees Creative Economy Team are pleased to announce that, in the first round of the Arts in the Neighbourhood grant scheme in 2016-17, funding has been awarded to the following projects:

Arrive-Settle-Live, a performance piece by 6 Million+ Charitable Trust, documenting the contribution made by three refugees to life in Kirklees to be shared at the Holocaust Memorial Day next January.

The 125th Anniversary Celebrations of Meltham Carlile Institute, marking the opening of the refurbished building with a series of celebratory events in the form of literature, music and theatre

Earth Carers, a project being delivered by Growing Works at Hope Bank Works, Honley and Northorpe Hall, Mirfield to engage families with children with additional needs in sensory experiences and activities linking arts and the nature through the environment.

Hepworth Brass Band will hold Family Friendly concerts at Huddersfield and Dewsbury Town Halls, and will deliver workshops at each concert where children and young people can have a go with instruments and experience some live music making.

Let’s Go Yorkshire CIC will deliver a project called “A Hitch in Time: Stories from the Golden Era of Hitchhiking” documenting and celebrating the experience of the two post-war hitchhiking generations, including a series of reminiscence sessions involving creative activities to inspire participants to contribute to a 3D map.

Working with a ceramics artist, participants from Holme Valley Sharing Memories and the Recovery College in Mirfield will create decorate ceramic tiles/animals/birds for an established sunken garden based at the Recovery College.

Skelmanthorpe Brass Band will be holding a Brass and Percussion Musicianship Training Day in September to attract young musicians with the aim of improving their playing and gaining experience in different types of music making.

2016/17 will be the final year of the Arts in the Neighbourhood Scheme. There are two future rounds planned for the remainder of the year. The closing date for the next round of applications is 30 September (for projects taking place from 1 December onwards)

If you have an arts project coming up that requires funding, please take a look at the Arts in the Neighbourhood webpage for further information. The scheme offers grants between £150 and £2,000 as a contribution to arts and cultural projects which benefit and involve Kirklees residents.

Please note: if you think you might like to make an application to the Scheme, you must have successfully registered with the Kirklees Grants Access Point four weeks prior to the closing date of the Scheme (if you would like to do this please email funding@kirklees.gov.uk or telephone the Funding Team on 01484 414824). Registration last for 3 years - if you are already registered, please do check with the Funding Team that your current registration has not expired.
