Robin Simpson, Chief Executive of Voluntary Arts wrote the article which explores some reasons for the existence of participatory arts groups and the role they play in a thriving civil society. The piece puts forward the potential benefits for participants and the wider community.
A Grand Northern Ukulele Festival is now the largest and longest running ukulele festival in the country and has taken place in Huddersfield for the past few years. It is run by volunteers as a not-for-profit organisation and in 2018 were the England winners at the Voluntary Arts Epic Awards, which highlight excellence and innovation in the voluntary arts.
