Brighton & Hove Recovery College Poetry Course
Writing Poetry to Improve Wellbeing
Engaging in creative activity can lighten your mood, help express blocked feelings, and enable you to access a state of ‘creative flow’ which calms the mind and gives you time out from difficult thoughts and feelings. This course enables you to experiment with poetry in a safe, supportive environment and, if you wish, share your writing work with others. The course will include a series of fun exercises exploring different poetic forms and involve discussion and reflection on a variety of poems.
Learning Outcomes
Students will:
« Experiment with different poetic forms (haiku, list poems etc.)
« Learn to discuss and reflect on others’ poetry
« Learn and practise different poetic methods for expressing oneself.

Dates: Mondays – 9, 16 & 23 May, 6, 13 & 20 June 2016
Time: 2:00-4:00 pm

Tutor: Claudia Gould, writer/facilitator, published writer with 21 years teaching experience. She’s a published novelist and short story writer.
Peer Trainer: Janette Bryan is a published poet, Peer Trainer for Sussex Recovery College and an independent trainer.
Anyone experiencing mental health challenges can register to attend a Recovery College. All are welcome, whatever level of experience or ability, who would like to use creativity to improve their mood.
