“Animation has the potential to breath life into the impossible “

Paul Spooner’s work combines humour and an obsessive attention to detail with delightful and intriguing mechanisms.
“My work as an artist / mechanic amounts to a constant pursuit of elegance and simplicity. All of my work tells a story in about three seconds," he said. "It's the story that interests and amuses me more than the mechanics in a way, which is different to some other automata makers. I'm interested in subjects that aren't for polite society – like sex, religion and death. I see the possibilities for humour in it all and people do say my work is conducive to happiness."
Cost: £50
