Job Description
Established in Exeter for over 25 years, Short Run Press is widely recognised as one of the UK's leading printers and bookbinders. Owned by the Gliddon and Couch families, it has built a reputation for quality printing and binding and for excellence in service. Customers include international mass publishers, learned societies, small presses and numerous individual authors. Short Run Press prints using the latest lithographic and digital technologies which are supported by a sophisticated pre-press work flow. The Short Run Press bindery utilises specialist equipment for sewing and finishing in styles including saddle stitched, limp-bound, hard-backed, accordion pleated and Japanese folded.
Short Run Press is seeking a Digital Print Production Apprentice to join a busy print and bookbinding company based in Exeter. The apprentice will work full-time for the company, preparing client work for print and operating digital print equipment. In addition, the apprentice will work towards a Digital Print Production Apprenticeship with Plymouth College of Art. This will be delivered via onsite assessments and monthly attendance at taught sessions at a venue in Exeter. Attendance at Plymouth College of Art will be required occasionally for periodic examinations. Successful candidates will be creative, with a keen eye for detail and an appreciation of good design. A good level of IT competence is essential. You will be working closely to a client brief and as such it is essential that you have a professional approach to work and can display strong time management skills which enable you to meet tight deadlines.
