Easter Music Studio Masterclasses with Wes Maebe
Take advantage of a rare opportunity to attend a series of masterclasses in making music with Wes Maebe, one of the UK’ most sought after music engineers. Three masterclasses have been scheduled at the Cream Room, offering artists the chance to spend the day with Wes and the Cream Room team , honing their writing, recording and performance skills.
As a writer and performer, time well spent in a professional recording studio should be the difference between an adequate result and a really great one. Of course, studio time can be pricey so it pays to know in advance how you can get the most out of your wise investment in the professional recording of your material. The series will offer the opportunity for budding songwriters, performers, engineers and producers to pick up recording, mixing and production techniques.
SESSION 1 - THE ARTIST RECORDING MASTERCLASS (14th April 2014)
SESSION 2 - THE AUDIO ENGINEERING MASTERCLASS (15th April 2014)
SESSION 3 - THE MIXING MASTERCLASS (16th April 2014)
Each workshop will be led by Wes, known for his work with artists like Ellie Goulding, New Model Army, Alexandra Burke, and Melanie C. He has worked with producers including GGGarth Richardson, Dave Allen, Rick Nowels and Paul O’Duffy and mixed live sound for Chaka Khan, Robert Plant and Sting. He has also worked in some of the country’s best studios - Mickie Most's RAK, Trevor Horn’s Sarm West and Mark Knopfler's British Grove.
Subjects covered will include: recording and mixing techniques; preparing yourself for the studio; micing up; achieving the optimum recorded sound; and techniques to get the best out of your mixes. Each session will be practical with full participation from the group and participants will leave equipped with the knowledge to help them make the most of studio time.
Classes can accommodate ten people and cost £95 per person per day. All sessions will take place at
The Cream Room Recording Studio, Home Farm, Dane End, SG12 0LL.
Sessions can be booked individually - or take the Season Ticket Option to attend all 3 sessions. To book your place, contact Martin on 01920 438926.
SESSION 1 - THE ARTIST MASTERCLASS (14th April 2014)
In the Artist Masterclass we will work with the participants to look at Songwriting, Arrangement and Performance. Bring your song to the session and we will analyse song structure, see if anything needs changing or moving within the song to make it more interesting, analyse the various sections of performance and arrangement for maximum impact.
And then setting the scene, creating the right vibe (dressing the room, lighting etc) and record a track - all the things that you want to get right before hitting the record button.
SESSION 2 - THE RECORDING MASTERCLASS (15th April 2014)
It pays to make sure you can prepare, set up, advise, coach and record - keeping the session flowing and the project on target and on schedule. The Recording Masterclass will be cover more technical aspects of the recording session; mic placement, band member placement, headphone mixes, tracking with or without compression to "tape", various mic techniques, signal flow, and incorporating creative ideas. We will also cover working with vocal overdubs, any other instrument multi-tracking.
SESSION 3 - THE MIXING MASTERCLASS (16th April 2014)
Mixing is that magical stage in the recording process where all your great tracks come together and create a unified and cohesive song. Today's computers and DAWs offer seemingly unlimited tracks and effects but what's the point of if at the end of the day you don't get a great mix? The Mixing Masterclass will cover the raw recorded multitracks, placement in the stereo field, EQ, compression, FX, re-Amping perhaps, monitoring levels, mix file delivery pre the mastering stage.
The Cream Room is delighted to be hosting the masterclasses with Wes. While music production and recording facilities are now easily accessible and available, not everyone has the intuitive skill to make the best use of them. With this series of masterclasses we are offering budding artists, engineers and producers the chance to elevate their performance, helping them towards that potential record deal or job in the industry. If a record deal isn’t the immediate goal you will still leave with phenomenal set of skills to help create a product and market their talents and skills themselves.
