Creative Clay course with Jill Fanshawe Kato
Some clay experience is preferable for students of this 3 day course, which is a contemporary approach to sculpting in clay. 'Creative Clay' can be widely interpreted and can include imaginative pots for the table as well as sculptures.
Coombe offers a chance to work directly from nature, with resident fantail pigeons and chickens and farm animals nearby. The subject can be extended to fish, birds, reptiles and insects or forms suggested by anything from shells or seed pods to landscape features. If you have a particular subject in mind, please bring reference materials such as drawings from different angles and photographs. The course begins with small clay maquettes leading on to larger pieces. Students will see how other artists have approached 3-D objects. Tutor will demonstrate techniques for making hollow forms suitable for firing. The emphasis will be on good design and simplified approach.
Jill Fanshawe Kato is an internationally renowned ceramicist and lecturer and exhibits widely in the UK, internationally and in Japan where she has had over 40 exhibitions.
