Michael Rosen has explored his family’s life through his writings - poetry, drama and story......his parents never fully accepted suburban life, while he and his brother found and enjoyed the local dissenting culture that had eluded their parents.

IMAGINING THE SUBURBS CONFERENCE

The College of Humanities (Dept of English) will be hosting the "Imagining the Suburbs" conference at the University of Exeter from 19 to 21st June 2014. The conference is the final event of the Leverhulme Trust-funded Cultures of the Suburbs International Research Network. Speakers will be arriving from universities and other interest groups throughout the world, and will be debating suburban architecture, art, literature, film, drama, religious practice, sport, sustainability and much more! The conference will also see the launch of a special issue of Riptide, featuring poetry, short fiction and autobiographical prose on the theme of "Imagining the Suburbs."

Conference Keynote speakers include Roger Keil (York University, Toronto) and celebrated children's author Michael Rosen who will be reflecting on his own childhood in suburban North London. Michael Rosen's talk (Sat 21st June at 11am in LT1) is open to the public.
