Watercolour Workshop with Carrie McKenzie
Workshop Details
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN? Learn how to create colourful, vibrant paintings in watercolour with Carrie McKenzie. We will explore techniques such as wet-into-wet, lost & found edges, blending and softening, dry-brushing, achieving depth and contrast through tonal values. We will also look at ways to mix and apply colour whilst avoiding the dreaded 'mud'.
ABOUT CARRIE: Her artwork hovers towards impressionistic and contemporary, rather than traditional photo-realism, as she continues to explore atmospheric loose styles which that out the colour, light and mood of her subjects. She aims is to capture the essence of a subject, leaving scope for imagination. Carrie's paintings are exhibited regularly at a number of galleries and venues across West Yorkshire, and have also been selected for collections in UK, Europe, USA, Australia and New Zealand.
IS IT FOR ME? No experience necessary – everyone is welcome whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced artist. Come along and try out some different approaches to painting with watercolour. The main aim is that you have a fun and creative experience that develops your own confidence and personal painting style.
WHAT DO I NEED? You'll need to bring with you: a range of watercolour paints and brushes, good quality watercolour paper (eg Saunders Waterford, Arches or Bockingford) at least quarter imperial size, palette, water sprayer, kitchen towel, pencil, rubber, water pot, masking tape, masking fluid, drawing board, chunk of candle wax, waterproof ink pen. You could also bring a few smaller pieces of watercolour paper just to practice on.
ON THE DAY: Carrie will demonstrate through step-by-step guides how to use watercolour paints in a variety of ways to get different results, as well giving personal one-to-one help throughout the day. This is very much a 'hands-on' workshop where you will learn more by doing than by watching. Source material will be provided for you. Carrie's teaching style is friendly and informal, suiting people of all levels from beginners to advanced..
