Blue Monkey Network in partnership with Towner and Matt Roberts Arts presents:
OPEN FORUM - An Artists’ Professional Development Day

1-2-1 artist review sessions from 11.00 - 17.00 (each session lasts 45 minutes) with Matt Roberts or Debra Wilson. FREE to MRA and BMN members; £10 non-members. Unfortunately these are now fully booked, but do contact us if you wish to be placed on the reserve list.

An evening panel discussion about the commercial sector with Matt Roberts, Debra Wilson and artist Phil Illingworth 18.30 to 20.00 (doors open 18.00pm) FREE to MRA and BMN members; £5 non-members.

Matt Roberts Open Forum 2014 enables Matt Roberts Arts to provide advice to artists in regions where the commercial sector is developing and less visible. At Towner there will be six one-to-one feedback sessions on developing your commercial practice with Debra Wilson, WW gallery, London and six one-to-one sessions with Matt Roberts, discussing ways to promote your practice.

In the evening there will be a panel discussion between Matt Roberts, Debra Wilson, and Phil Illingworth, artist, about opportunities to show your work, sell your work, and ways in which the commercial sector is changing. To book either a one-to-one session or a place for the panel discussion please email bluemonkeynet@btinternet.com stating which events you want to book for.

Matt Roberts is a curator and art consultant with over 10 years’ experience of artist’s professional development support and exhibition management. He has worked in India, Israel, Denmark, Norway and Sweden, as well as lecturing at various universities and institutions across the UK. Having founded both the Matt Roberts Arts project space and the Salon Art Prize, he has mentored or offered one-to-one support to over 500 artists, and contributes critical writing to a-n, Axis, and Guardian Cultural professionals on a regular basis. www.mattroberts.org.uk/

Debra Wilson is an artist, curator and director of WW Contemporary London. She has 14 years’ experience in arts education, artists’ professional development and curating. Co-founder of the WW Solo Award she has supported hundreds of artists through the gallery’s innovative programme and is frequently invited to talk at universities, galleries and artist-led symposiums. She has supported many artists through running tailored one to one surgeries and has selected MA Stars for Axis and delivered Self Assembly seminars for Artquest. Wilson has also co-curated two UK collateral events at the 53rd and 54th Venice Biennales.

Phil Illingworth has exhibited in the UK, the USA, and at the 53rd Venice Biennale. He was selected for the John Moores Painting Prize in 2010, Salon Art Prize 2010 and 2011, Marmite IV, and the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2013. In 2012 he had his first London solo show ‘Frightening Albert’ with WW Gallery.
