Natural Histories exhibition: Jonathan Emmerson
Natural Histories
Jonathan Emmerson
Wednesday 7th November – Monday 31st December 2018
Open Monday – Friday 10am – 4pm and Saturday 10am – 2pm
Our final exhibition of the year brings artist Jonathan Emmerson to the gallery with a host of colourful creations!
Jonathan is an artist illustrator working in woodcut printmaking and fabric design. His work is inspired by nature and natural history and involves the exploration of pattern.
“I start by making lots of drawings and thinking in layers. Once I'm happy with the composition I then reverse the design, tracing it onto the wood or lino before cutting. It's a fluid process and things often change at the cutting stage, especially with woodcuts where the grain dictates or suggests what's possible – and this helps to keep things fresh.”
“My graphic and illustrative style translates strongly into textile design where there is a long tradition of relief printmaking.”
The Natural Histories exhibition includes new large scale fabric designs, limited edition lino & woodcut prints, and hand-printed cards.
