Ammie Flexen Ceramic Artist, Public Artist and Arts Manager
I am a socially engaged ceramic artist with over 25 years’ experience of delivering creative projects in communities, schools and health care settings.
As an artist, I facilitate workshops with a person-centred approach: starting with a plan but always with the flexibility to respond to the needs of the participants.
I create public art and project manage events/installations and understand the needs of projects from all perspectives. One of my favourite projects was creating Kirklees Garden Stories commission for Kirklees Council #heARTmytown in 2020 in collaboration with Kathleen Yore. Mid-pandemic, we found both online and practical ways to engage with the community and schools and enable public interaction and discourse with art.
In 2018 opened ‘The Clay Mill’, a studio pottery teaching potters of all ages and skills levels and it quickly became a thriving space for all things clay.
