Card Launch and Exhibition with Debby Mason and Jan Brewerton
Launch event of new greetings card range by Debby Mason and Jan Brewerton
Saturday 2nd August 2014, 3-6pm.
All are welcome to meet Jan Brewerton and Debby Mason at 45 Southside Gallery on the afternoon of the 2nd of August 2014 from 3-6pm. Original paintings and prints are on display and for sale throughout August.
45 Southside Gallery launches two new ranges to add to their popular greetings cards. The new ranges are by Plymouth artists Debby Mason and Jan Brewerton.
45 Southside started publishing a range of images taken from original poetrytiles by Iris Milward in 2012. What started small with 16 images has grown very rapidly into a successful greeting card publishing business with over 100 stockists and 42 images across three ranges now available.
Debby Mason has been a printmaker for over 25 years, specialising in hand-coloured etchings of sealife and other animals. Her cards feature intricate drawings of seahorses, fish, chickens, hares and even a Dodo.
"My recent work concentrates on my love of the sea and the amazing life it contains. As a qualified diver, I feel privileged to be able to come face to face with the subjects that I draw. Etching is the perfect medium for many underwater creatures with its fineness of the line and the ability to fend itself to the meticulous detail that attracts me to them as subjects."
Jan Brewerton is a Painter, Printmaker, Designer, Maker: an artist working within and across a diverse range of visual media. She is based in Devon and Shropshire, and travels frequently to Italy and China. Initially a painter, she has more recently returned to an early interest in printmaking. Jan's work has its foundations in domesticity; in its details, its memories and its rituals. Individual works begin as close studies of everyday domestic objects – motifs arising in the forms of vessels, artefacts, implements, textiles, fruit forms, patterns and natural materials.
Both ranges are colourful and lively, some with a slight vintage feel, and complement the existing range of poetrytile greetings cards by Iris Milward. There really is a card available for every occasion.
The greeting cards are an extension of 45 Southside Gallery on Plymouth's historic Barbican, which specialises in ceramics, glass and metalwork by artists based in Devon or Cornwall. All three greeting card ranges are created by artists based in Devon and small local suppliers are used wherever possible, including printing and distribution.
