2.Times Do profile
We are a community interest company based in the South West that provides workshops and consultancy services for schools, libraries, museums and other public venues who are interested in growing their technological and digital offering. We are particularly focused on the creative side of technology. 2.Times Do is run by Simon Belshaw & Ian Woodbridge.
Simon is a composer who is interested in generative music systems, he gained a PhD in composition from the University of Hertfordshire 2005 (Generative Systems and Disruptive Processes in Music Composition). He currently uses Raspberry Pis to generate music and recently received funding from the Francis Chagrin Award (July 2015) for work on his Music Machine project. He is Raspberry Pi Certified Educator and is a founder / director of Earworms Exeter, live music performances for all the family aimed at educating and informing children.
Ian is a computer and electronics enthusiast who has worked in the IT industry for over 20 years and has a passion for all things digital. Having run his own IT company he now wants to help the next generation of digital entrepreneurs realise their goals.
We are responsible for setting up the Exeter Raspberry Jam, a very informal gathering of, predominantly, Raspberry Pi enthusiasts, where people come to learn, talk and explore coding and related projects. We have also set up and run a coding club for primary school children where they come to learn how to code; although we run under the banner of Code Club (and have recently been awarded Star Club Status) we make it as creative as possible working on projects. For example this Christmas we are making an interactive display that will trigger fairy lights and recordings of carols that the children have coded.
We have established the Exeter Music Hack event which takes place in FabLab Devon, where we experiment with electronic music, making new sounds, hacking existing instruments and other music making devices. In October we had training from Intel at FabLab London in using their Edison board. We subsequently have delivered a series of workshops and hackathon in FabLab Devon.
We have both been involved with FabLab Devon since its opening and are members of the management committee.
